Weeks 13 & 14
This week we worked on preparing the basement to remove the floor joist by working on site. In doing so we created a temporary shoring system to stabilize the gas lines that are currently hanging from the joists. Along with the shoring system we stabilized the gas meters by creating a table for the gas meters to rest on when they are disconnected from the joists as well. Next removed the stairs in the middle of the space along with the rooting stairs in the front corner of the basement. Lastly, we laid a vapor barrier over the dirt floors to help control the moisture content in the basement.
Week 13
Week 14
We began the week by moving quickly to add about 5 truck loads of gravel into the basement to place over the vapor barrier. From there, the basement was addressed for the first phase of the floor repair. Additionally, extra work lights were added to the basement to ensure sufficient lighting and safety while we work. Mean while, the group worked on getting rid of some of the large stones and excess bricks found in the basement. Towards the end of the week we began to remove the first portion of flooring including the concrete by the corner entry of the storefront.
